…and it is also the day of The Rabbit Reich establishment. I suppose it’s also Valentine’s Day, but no one pays much attention to the Christian saints, except for funny_bunny and his dedication to St. Cecilia.
Ignoring that, it is now a new era. The Great Purge has occurred via holstein’s hands and the Reich is composed of Rabbits who’ve survived. Forgive me for sounding completely ridiculous; certain individuals insist on filling neophytes in on the turbulent times of the Rabbits, “rich in disasters, frightful in its wars, torn by civil strife, and even in peace full of horrors”. And since the veil of anonymity is now cast aside, those individuals are funny_bunny and prettyprophet, with Lavie Rhap quoting Tacitus.
Yes, changes have been made. This is no longer the Republic. This is the Reich. Humorous, since the Republic was far more fascist than the Reich will ever be; I digress. As you may have noticed, we actually have an “about” page that contains information rather than a poor attempt at aping the epic styles of the classics [funny: Hey! I worked hard on that!]. There is also a staff list; there have been purges, despite the long list implying otherwise. In truth, there are likely less than ten active members; others aid bizarrely and inconsistently. But these are aesthetics.
No, the real change comes from the fact that we will not continue doing Robot. They’re domestically translated; buy them. I was personally against the scanning from the beginning but funny_bunny being funny_bunny…he does as he pleases [prettyprophet: "Always roaming with a hungry heart"]. Thankfully, funny_bunny has decided move onto artbooks. How tedious. I’d like to say that we’ve more scanners and time, but we don’t. Two scanners, both at funny_bunny’s house. If anything, releases will possibly be slower due to more care being given to editing and the actual scanning process itself.
To clear things up: the Reich will bend. We will not debind. That is an absolute condition as funny_bunny refuses to debind his “pretties” and they all belong to him. Robot Vol. 1 was debinded because the book fell apart on its own, so unless an artbook decides to drop out pages, there will likely be gutter. Purists, you have my apologies. Some of our own feel uncomfortable about this as well; nevertheless, the Reich has given consent. We reason that until a better release comes out, what we scan must make do. Considering what an expense the artbook hobby can be, we may be the only ones who scan what we scan.
We will try to limit ourselves to only imports. Again, I find the scanning of licensed material a waste of resources since that usually shows a work’s popularity. Why scan that which can be easily acquired? Perhaps when ages have past and said work is out of print, otherwise, no. “And try to buy some artbooks yourself. Even one. You have to remember that these are edited images; they may not be edited properly. Only holding the physical book does justice.” So says Lavie Rhap, who does follow her own maxim; she owns four.
The truth of the matter is that most of the Rabbits are doing this purely for funny_bunny’s sake. Most are not fans of anime and manga. Some wish burning death on anime and manga. But favoring you, the random internet user, is funny_bunny. He has no sense of monetary value; what he wants, he gets. What he shares, he gives to all. In a sense, it’s admirable; at the same time, it’s utterly unnecessary. And this is why the Reich depends solely on him, even with our democratic government. There is not a single Rabbit, including myself, who is willing to undertake the labor of scanlation in any way, bar one. The moment funny_bunny decides that he’s finished, we’re done. True, various Rabbits may express interest and even contribute their own artbooks, but funny_bunny is the pillar of the Reich. This isn’t a pathetic stab at creating a cult of personality; this is only a preemptive explanation at why things may take time to be released. funny_bunny encourages us. We don’t encourage him. So if he doesn’t feel like doing it, neither will we. Certainly a few Rabbits are capable of assisting on work delegation (prettyprophet, Lavie Rhap, the author of this post) but they also happen to be ones with a full timetable. While the Rabbits do this for you, we don’t get anything aside from the opportunity to be in funny_bunny’s house, which we are always at regardless. Some of us don’t even receive this blessing/curse.
So allow me to produce a manifesto of The Rabbit Reich, co-written with funny_bunny:
1. Cheesecake is the cake of the Reich.
2. The Rabbits will scan artbooks.
3. The Rabbits will bend, not debind, unless the fates decide on it.
4. When funny_bunny diverts his whimsy, the Reich will cease.
5. Gut ist tot.
Well, this leaves room for adjustment.
Now you understand our position. Artbooks are not like most manga. There is a lot of color. Our scanners aren’t exactly of high quality. We bend. We don’t actually have any members that are 100% dedicated to the Reich. Even funny_bunny is not 100%, what with his variety of other interests. But we will try to do things in an efficient fashion and in a way that also benefits you, dear reader.
Thank you for reading this lengthy statement by The Rabbit Reich. [funny_bunny: "May you find your true path!"]
